Hey there! If you’re not following me on Instagram, you should go do that, because I just posted a teaser of one of my current projects, Nothing Is Here! But if social media isn’t your cup of tea, here’s what you need to know!
Nothing Is Here is an adult sci-fi horror novel that follows Asa Cutter, a survivalist and explorer who is hired to investigate a wasteland called the Glow. Nobody who visits the Glow ever comes out again, but Asa’s new employer, a large mining company, is convinced there’s something worth having hidden there. As Asa discovers just what is so dangerous about the Glow, he records his findings in a journal, which is translated centuries later by a mysterious government agency hell-bent on retracing his footsteps… and covering their tracks. A series of cryptic annotations throughout each entry detail the translator’s own journey as she learns the same lesson as Asa: that the deeper you bury a secret, the more it will destroy when it inevitably fights its way back to the surface.
I plan to self-publish Nothing Is Here some time in the next couple of years! I know that’s sort of a broad timeline, but I’m still so relatively early in the editing process that I’m honestly not sure how much longer this is going to take (especially with this being my debut novel). Rest assured, there will be lots of updates as the process goes along, both here and on Instagram (@itsmywriterbrain).
In the meantime, please enjoy this tiny snippet, from whence the title came:
If you like cosmic horror, books with fun little metatextual clues like annotations, footnotes, and redactions, grumpy old heroes accidentally adopting semi-feral teenagers, government conspiracies, and stories where nature fights back and secrets come back to haunt the people who buried them, I think you’ll love Nothing Is Here.
Stay tuned for more!
